You are always impeccably dressed. What's your secret?
One hundred percent polyester. The ladies love it. It's fashionable but practical too- it never wrinkles. When you're the hardest-working-middle-aged man in show business, you do 10 gigs a week and every day it looks straight outta the dry cleaner. My suits have gone through hell, but look at this! That seam! It's built in.
Let's talk about your outfit.
Everything's vintage [from stores in N.Y.C.] except the shoes.
Where'd you get the suit?
I got this at Screaming Mimi's. It's an After Six Suit.
What's that?
It's a very old vintage brand. This particular suit, I think it's a rental tux. This bowtie is a huge brown velour, fluffy clip-on that I got at Cheap Jack's. The cuff links and glasses are from Fabulous Fanny's. The shirt I got at Houndstooth, a killer new men's vintage place in Williamsburg. The shoes are Ben Sherman.
How much did you pay for your ensemble?
Full thing, including the shoes? Maybe $300, which is cheap.
What about your hair prods?
Ace comb and Murray's Pamade. Every two weeks, Luigi at Astor Place [barber shop] cuts my hair, trims my mustach, and shaves my cheeks to give me that nice, baby skin.
How would you describe your style?
The looks is definitely '50s, a little '70s- Vegas, Atlantic City, Palm Springs. My style hasn't changed in 50 years. I think my first bib was a tie.
Who influences your look?
I'm really inspired by George Jefferson's suits [on The Jeffersons], 'cause he wore the three piece. Early Johnny Carson, Benny Hill. But more current is Ron Burgundy.
From Anchorman?
Anchorman, yeah, I almost had a heart attack [when I saw his suits].
Any style advice for our readers?
In New York City, there are millions of people. You can either stand out or blend in. When you go into a roomful of black wearing a light blue tuxedo, who's getting on "Page Six"? SHOWBIZ!
