02.11.08: "This Is Burlesque" - Backstage

In terms of audience, there's some overlap between New York City's legit theatre and nightclub scenes but not much. 03.28.08: "The Strokes at This Is Burlesque" - E! Online

The Strokes, who strolled into the This Is Burlesque show at cheeky and cheerful Corio eatery on a Friday eve. The Strokers slid into a table by the stage (to get a better look at the ladies, fer sure) and interacted with the emcee throughout the campy show. The five indie fellas sported jeans and rocker tees, natch, foregoing anything harder than vodka 'n' Red Bulls. Funny, you'd think their energy drink du jour would be Rock Star, huh? The band enjoyed the saucy entertainment—who wouldn’t?—and stayed well after the show was over to chill with the cast. Bet none of the performers in this sexy dinner theater were a match for drummer Fabrizio Moretti’s ex Drew Barrymore, but a guy’s gotta eat, no?

BUST MAGAZINE - You are always impeccably dressed. What's your secret?

MURRAY HILL - One hundred percent polyester. The ladies love it. It's fashionable but practical too- it never wrinkles. That seam! It's built in.

It's bawdy, irreverent and is even drawing celebs to its tassel-twirling shows. Dea Birkett lifts the curtain on New York's growing neo-burlesque scene.

It's Saturday night at the Corio, and Murray Hill is warming up. He's smoothing down his hair with wax, teasing the ends of his small moustache into neat points, and tucking his shirt into the belt of his broad waist. Fellow performer Angie Pontani is gluing on her pasties. The music starts up, Murray saunters between the cluster of small round tables onto a low stage the size of a tablecloth, and opens, as always, with "Folks - It's show time!"
